Young people in Stonehaven and Inverbervie have the opportunity to keep active throughout the summer holidays thanks to a Street Football and COMET initiative that starts this week for six weeks and takes place outside the local leisure centres.

The initiative has been developed by Aberdeenshire Council, Grampian Police and Pillar and is supported by funding from Aberdeenshire Community Safety.

The mobile sports arena brings a range of sporting activities to towns and villages throughout Aberdeenshire and aims to improve participation in sporting activities.

Community Learning and Development staff from Aberdeenshire Council will be engaging with young people through the COMET van with community beat officers, sports development coaches, community leisure and Pillar staff encouraging participation in street football.

The events will be held outside Stonehaven Leisure Centre on Wednesdays from 7pm to 7.30pm for primary aged children and from 7.30pm to 9.30pm for young people of secondary school age.

Similarly the football unit and COMET van will be outside Inverbervie leisure centre on Thursdays from 7pm to 7.30pm for primary school children and 7.30pm to 9pm for young people of secondary school age.
