What are Community Development Groups?
C.D.G’s are made up of local residents interested in their communities. Local people serving on C.D.G’s can ensure that local leisure and learning opportunities are what their communities need. Members in the group have a say in what goes on and have control over the local Community Development Group funds.
Members of the group include those with an interest in: adult learning, young people, voluntary groups in the community, sports, libraries, arts, community councillors and Aberdeenshire council councillors.
Why have Community Development Groups?
No one knows more about what it means to live in an area than the local people. Local residents are connected to local networks and understand the needs of the area.
What is involved?
A Community Development Group represents the interests of local people by deciding on priorities, working with local groups or agencies to deliver quality services or allocating funds to specific projects.
The group will find out local people’s interests and work with others:
- To develop special projects in partnership
- To raise the standards of service in an area
- Support the social, personal and educational developments of adults and young people
- Strengthen local communities
If you feel that you can contribute to the work of the CDG and can spare a couple of hours every 6-8 weeks, contact staff at Stonehaven Community Centre .
